11 Games to look out for 2011

With a few days to go before 2010 closes out, Sven’s Lazy Videogame Site brings you a list of games a lot of people (and some games they might not care but I do give a damn) are waiting for the new year of 2011. So, with no particular order, here are the list of videogames we should look out for in the year 2011.

1. Crysis 2

Platforms: PC, Playstation 3, Xbox360

One of the PC’s best 1st person shooting games comes to the next gen consoles. In other words, not only would the PC games get this edition, but also those who own the PS3 and the Xbox 360. The game, set 3 years after the first one, pits you into an alien infested earth. Don’t worry though, since this game allows you to have a vast arsenal of guns and other gadgets to combat the alien scum. The game is slated to be released in March 2011 for all platforms.

2. Diablo III

Platforms: PC, MAC

After a decade of Diablo II’s release comes this new installment to the Diablo franchise. The game is set in the ‘sanctuary’, the dark and brooding world of the Diablo series. Just like the first two installments, you are to scour these dark dungeons and hack/slash your way against your enemies. The game is set to be released sometime in the year 2011.

3. Batman: Arkham City

Platforms: Playstation 3, PC, Xbox 360

Yeah, you read the review I gave in the previous game so this one is a must-buy for 2011. The new game takes place about a year after Batman: Arkham Asylum. From the previews of other videogame sites, the story is about former Arkham warden Quincy Sharp becoming the new mayor of Gotham. In turn, he creates Arkham City, a slum area in Gotham City where he creates a new facility to house Gotham’s most evil and…well..insane. So let’s skip to the part where ‘all hell breaks’ lose and it did so it’s up to Batman to save Gotham yet again in this part known as Arkham City. The game’s release date as of now would be around the 3rd quarter of 2011.

4. Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Platforms: Playstation 3, PC, Xbox 360

This game is set between the events of MGS 2 and MGS 4. Furthermore, this game will be the first game of the Metal Gear Solid franchise with Kojima out of the helm. So while he will be the executive producer of the game, he won’t be that much of a hands-on guy compared to the other MGS game he was working on earlier (MGS: Peacewalker for the PSP). The story of this game focuses on the character of Raiden and his transformation from a human to a kick-ass cyborg ninja. The game will be different compared to the usual MGS games that is heavily centered on stealth. This one would be more fast-paced and filled with sword confrontations. Expected release for the game is slated on July 13, 2011. If it is, hot damn!

5. Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of the two worlds

Platforms: Playstation 3 , Xbox 360

One fighting game that everyone has been waiting for since…2001? The Marvel vs Capcom franchise is back and in living comic book style of art work. There will be some returning characters such as Ryu and Captain America and also some newcomers such as Chris Redfield (from the Resident Evil series) and Dante (from the Devil May Cry series). Game is set to be released by February 2011.

6. Little Big Planet 2

Platforms: Playstation 3

Those little sack boys you’ve been raving about are back! LBP 2 is hitting the stores in 2011 and be sure to catch them by that time. The surprise hit videogame in recent memory is slated to be released by January 18, 2011.

7. Dragon Age II

Platforms: Playstation 3, PC, Xbox 360

The sequel to Dragon Age: Origins is also coming this 2011. This RPG is set in Free Marshes of Thedas, mostly in the City of Kirkwall. The story of the game centers of a guy named Hawke, and the plot will be about a decade long. The game’s release date is on March 2011 (March 8th for those in the USA and on the 11th for those in the UK)

8. Star Wars: The Old Republic

Platforms: PC

Yep, from the creators of Bioware comes another RPG. This time, it’s a Star Wars game. Star Wars: The Old Republic, is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) obviously set in the Star Wars universe. The player gets to choose to either have his/her character be part of one of two factions (The Republic or the Sith Empire) by the way they choose their own path. In other words, the players actions can affect their morality which in turn affects which faction they would most likely venture into. The game is set to be released between the second and third quarter of 2011.

9.  The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Platforms: Wii

This Nintendo Wii exclusive game is a reboot of the Legend of Zelda story. The main character of the story, Link, goes down from the floating continent to explore the dark reaches of those down below. He, however, is not alone as a mystical sword accompanies him in this arduous journey. Originally slated to be released by 2010, it is now pushed back to early 2011.

10. Mortal Kombat

Platforms: Playstation 3, Xbox 360

Speaking of another ‘reboot’ in the plotline, Mortal Kombat is back with a vengeance. The plot centers around the events during the end of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon wherein Raiden is about to be defeated by Shao Khan. Raiden, however, appears to his past self (before the events of the first Mortal Kombat game) to reveal what will happen in the future. Seeing this, the Raiden at that time is trying to dechiper what his future self has given him in his vision. With the future being revealed to him, the plot will surely be changed drastically. This game follows the first three installments of the Mortal Kombat series (MK, MKII, MKIII-you get the picture). The game is set to be released by April 2011.

11. WWE All-Stars

Platforms: Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation Portable, Wii, Xbox 360

If you thought the body of the wrestlers in Legends of Wrestlemania was big, WWE All-Stars makes them look more larger than life. I mean, just look at the screenshots yourself and I can assure you you’d be making a dozen of steroid jokes before finishing this current sentence. There, now you believe me? This game is slated to be released in early 2011, probably within the same time Wrestlemania hits.

Honorable mentions (other games I felt like should be here but I’m too lazy to make a writeup on)

Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, NBA 2k12, WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2012, Max Payne 3, RAGE, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
